Movie Review - Julie and Julia

Movie Review:
JULIE & JULIA
By Pamela James
When Frank and I bought this movie last weekend the twenty something sales clerk looked at me and said. "You won't like this movie it's boring and I fell asleep trying to watch it."
I didn't have much hope of liking it when I left the store but Sunday Morning I played it for Frank and I and HE did not fall asleep and I was captivated. There are layers to this story that I don't think the sales clerk grasped and I loved how the past generation and the present generation can have so much in common by way of food and tradition.
Julia Childs (played by Meryl Streep) is a culinary legend and when Julie Powell decides that she has no direction in life she tries to change this by way of a blog. Julie (played by Amy Adams) decides to make 524 recipes in 365 days. Mainly to prove to herself that she can finish what she starts and like a writer who writes everyday (which is truly what Julie aspires to become) a culinary chef has to cook everyday.
It's a creative endeavor and Julie tells all about her lack of skills and her accomplishments every day on her blog. Soon she has a fan base and soon she is obsessed. The magic of french cooking leads her to have a dinner party or three, she researches and studies everything she can about Julia Child.
Along the way there are mishaps, meltdowns, and clearly room for improvement. However there is also charm, warmth, humor and most of all enlightenment as Julie goes home after work day after day to challenge herself.
I found this movie delightful and I learned a lot about what one person can achieve when they put their mind to creating something from nothing which is very motivating and this movies inspired me to enjoy the moment of today and the moments of past generations. I like a movie that moves me and this one is clearly a movie for all generations.

Pamela ***** a total five star movie.

  2. I'm so glad I didn't listen to the sales clerk and bought the movie. It's one I could watch over and over and I have a feeling still catch something I missed the first time.

  4. Yes if I can find it at a reasonable price. I can't get it any time soon from library loan as there is a waiting list.
